Rediscovering Passion: My Journey Back to Motorcycle
Post by Ellen Moser
Passion is what fuels us, gives us energy, and brings joy to our lives.
But what happens when life shifts, responsibilities change, and the things that once lit us up fall to the side? For me, the answer came on two wheels.
Back in 1996, my husband and I took an unforgettable road trip on our motorcycles. We rode through the breathtaking southern Utah Canyonlands, wound our way into the mountains of Colorado, and even made it two-thirds of the way up Pikes Peak. The freedom of the open road, the beauty of the landscapes, and the exhilaration of riding created memories that still make me smile.
For years, motorcycles were part of our lives—weekend rides to the beach, winding through the hills, or simply enjoying the fresh air. But in 2021, after my husband’s stroke and with my bike getting too old to maintain, I made the difficult decision to sell both motorcycles. I told myself it was practical, but deep down, I felt like I’d lost a part of myself.
Not long after, a friend gave me some tough love: “Get off your butt. Stop Netflix binging. Find a passion.” For two years, I wrestled with that challenge. What was my passion? What could make me excited again? Then one day, it hit me—my passion had always been motorcycles.
That realization sent me on a new adventure. I researched bikes, tested cruisers, and eventually ordered a brand-new Indian motorcycle in frost silver, complete with blue running lights and all the accessories I’d dreamed of—saddlebags, fog lights, and even a safety camera. Waiting for it to arrive was agonizing, but once it did, I was ready to ride again.
At first, I stuck to short rides around the block, then ventured out to nearby backroads. Each trip built my confidence and rekindled the thrill I had missed for so long. Finally, I joined a group of bikers on a two-hour ride through the countryside. The wind in my helmet, the rumble of the engine, and the sheer freedom of the road reminded me: I’m back. I’ve found my passion again.
What I’ve learned is this:
Passion doesn’t always come easily, and sometimes it hides until we’re ready to welcome it back. But when we find it—or rediscover it—it gives us energy, joy, and purpose. For me, that passion is motorcycles.
For you, it might be something entirely different. The important thing is to keep looking until you find it. Because life is too short to live without passion.
